If so, where? and are you able to bring a small child along with you?
I would really like to volunteer my time somewhere but I have a two year old shadow that is with me at all times. I was wondering if it was still possible.
I know I could possibly visit people in nursing homes but I think I would like to try something different this time.
Oh, also, if anyone has pets that are therapy dogs, how did you get them certified and what work do they do?
It's OK if you don't have any suggestions, just please bump for those who may.

Actually, you'd be surprised how much the elderly get a kick of having a small child around, my mama in law lives in a nursing home, and the old folks faces light up every time they see the hubs and my 15 month old.

Yes I know. I have volunteered my time in nursing homes in the past. I am simply looking at other options for now. That option isn't out altogether. It never is. No worries.

Maybe a local women's shelter?
I shall give this some serious thought...

Have you thought about the VFW? A lot of great stories to hear and I'm sure they'd love to have a wee one around. Call and ask.

I worked in a no kill animal shelter. We always had volunteers come in and just pet and brush the cats, or walk dogs. It's an option anyway :)

I volunteer for the hospice where I work on my days off. My boys come with me sometimes, depending on the patient I'm going to visit.
