is the term "native american" exclusive to the US or does it cover all of north america?

I mean Canada and Mexico are both part of North America, surely the tribes spanned all across the continent. I'm just not sure if there is a universal term for all the native peoples since they are now members if different countries.

Never thought of it. I guess it would cover anyone who was here prior to the pilgrams that is of native american heritage.

I'm pretty sure it technically refers to any heritages present in either North or South America prior to European influence, and anyone descended from those heritages.
