How long would it take for a blood clot to form? I'm 25 and on bc now, started about a week ago. I am also a smoker about half a pack a day. I was told if my calfs started to ache to go to the hospital. Well my left calf is achy but it seems like it would be to soon. It's a light dull pain. I haven't done anything to make it feel like this, I don't believe I did anyways

Did you do more walking recently than you normally do?

I don't know. But if smoking while on the pill can cause blood clots I suggest you either stop smoking or find another form of bc. I mean it's not rocket science here.

It should be swollen and tender if its a clot. Should be.

Usually blood clots cause swelling, it's tender to the touch and sometimes it will get red and feel hot to the touch too. Your best bet it to either quit smoking or change BC.

They can start just from sitting for too long, there's no set timeframe for it to happen.  I'm with the others that say maybe it's time to quit smoking or do something else for birth control.  Of course any time is a good time to quit smoking....
