I just made my son turn off Sponge Bob Edit

Posted by   + Show Post

My son (5) and I are "taking turns."  I watch a show, then he picks one, lol.  So his pick was Spongebob.  That didn't fly.  I made him turn it off and pick something else.  He said, "MawMaw (Grandma) lets me watch it."  I said, "Is MawMaw here?"  He said, "No, I have to change it, huh?"  LOL  I was like, "Yes."  So he picked Caillou, which doesn't make me NEARLY as crazy, LOL.  So, now we are watching Cailllou.  I can't wait until my turn so I can have Big Bang Theory back. ETA:  He has NEVER been allowed to watch Spongebob.  This is NOT a new rule as of today because I suddenly don't like the show.  His entire life, DH and I have agreed that it is inappropriate and he is not to watch it.  He KNOWS this rule and chose to break it.  Rather than taking his TV privilege entirely, I gave him the opportunity to find something else.  Not really sure how this post became such drama.  I was sharing innocent Sunday morning fun.  You women are WAY more upset over this than the 5 year old who was the "victim" in the situation.

LOL You women are crazy. Who knew a stupid yellow sponge could evoke such riot?

"He's NEVER been allowed to watch SpongeBob at home and be knew it. He was even giggling as he turned it on because he knew he'd have to change it. "

So maybe find a different game where you're not allowed to step all over the rules and he has to suck it up. At least allow him to veto your choice as well.

That's how I usually view him.

I haven't let my kids watch it since the episode they were making fun of the squirrel for being "slow"

Funny. My boys were saying how wrong it was to make fun of Sandy and how it's something you shouldn't do. So they took a good lesson from it.

As I said on another thread, after seeing the anime crap and violent and vulgar shows from Cartoon Network, Spongebob is amazing. At least he sends the message of being loyal, hard working, proud of your work, happy despite any situation, and a good friend.

1. Taking turns was HIS plan
2. I ONLY veto SpongeBob, which is a rule breaker. I may ASK him not to watch Power Rangers or Little Einsteins but they are ALLOWED so if he says no, fine.
3. We are having fun. :-)

Quoting purpleducky:

Well why is spongebob banned? And why can you veto and he can't? It seems like you want to teach him about being fair (I.e. by taking turns) yet don't follow through with it.

Quoting mom2ljh:

Nope. He live BBT. It's only Spongebob. MIL knows my feelings and introduces him to it anyhow. He knows it isn't allowed and that be broke a rule. ANY other show child's show, despite my personally feeling toward it, is fine.

I love Little Einstiens!!

Quoting mom2ljh:

He does. He's a huge Big Bang Theory Fan. He especially loves Sheldon. LOL

He also KNOWS Spongebob isn't allowed. I dislike Little Einsteins as well but wouldn't make him turn it off. He broke the rules and knew it.

Quoting GhettoKoolAide:

That doesn't seem fair. I wouldn't tell him to pick a show then say no watch one I like as well. I'm sure he finds your show highly entertaining.

I don't watch adult tv with my kids. They can watch what they want and my turn comes when they are asleep.

It's not a matter of "vetoing" his choice. It's a matter of following the rules. He knew Spongebob wasn't allowed. He giggled as he turned it on knowing I'd make him change it, lol.

We have the same rule about Spongebob. Dora was banned for a little while because DD had nightmares about Swiper, but she's been allowed to watch an episode here and there lately.

We don't take turns for shows though because I don't watch TV all that often. We take turns with music. Mommy gets to play her music or the kids get Netflix.
