It depends more on the child's maturity level more than a number.

I have a child who was ok alone by the age of 12. I ahve a son that is almost 12 and he is no where near ready to be home alone

It depends on the length of time, the particular kid, the area and neighborhood, all sorts of stuff.

8 or 9, obviously it depends on the individual child.

He does, he just goes in an hour later after elementary. He's a 7th grader.

Quoting Anonymous:

Does the 13 year old not go to school?

Quoting SweetMama823:

My 13yr old stays home alone in the mornings for 20 minutes while i take my younger kids to school. The most he's stayed home alone was for an hour.

I think at the age of 10 they can be alone for awhile. That is when we started anyway.
