I just don't know what to do!

Dd is going on her third straight month of being constipated. It's gotten to the point where she can only go when we give her milk of magnesia and/or suppositories. I just got off the phone with the after hours pediatrician and he suggested miralax.

More friggen stuff to force down her. Just great.

I love her doctors' office. They were a godsend after her doctor, which the hospital I delivered her in signed us up for... against what we wanted... refused to ever see her unless she had a pre-scheduled appointment. Months in advance.

But these doctors here... we've called at least twice these months because dd is not getting any better, and they're just giving us different things to try. Which I totally understand.

But if option A doesn't work, and Option B doesn't work, and Option C is a long shot at helping... then what happens when C fails?

She started out taking the whole milk (she's totally off formula) fine. Then when she started getting constipated, it got turned to 2%. Then fat free, now Lactaid 2%.

She won't take juices, at all. Never, won't even look at the stuff. Fruits... it's a hit or miss. If she doesn't like the look or texture, she'll throw it away and never look at it again.

She just pooped (we had to massage it out of her, and then dig it out after it was half out and she just stopped trying...) and I swear it was 4 inches long, at least, and rock hard. Blood was all over the wipe and the stool.

I can't take this anymore. It's hard enough to comfort her when she bumps her head on something... but watching her go through this every day... I don't think my heart can take anymore of her suffering.

Is there anything that you ladies can suggest, aside from what I mentioned? I've posted a few times before asking for help, but we've done everything y'all suggested, and still no go.

I'm about ready to take her to Children's Hospital and check her in at the ER it's getting to be that bad.

Bump for advice. My DD is almost 4, and is constipated a lot as well.

Dd had this problem when she was younger. I started giving her benefiber in her drinks and had to resort ti warm baths to get her to poop. Good luck, we know how difficult this can be.

Take her to a gastro/intestinal specialist

I would go ahead and ask for a referral to a pediatric gastroenterologist (sp?). I think you'll get more help and answers that way.

I highly recommend giving her miralax only its a stool softer and the body doesn't become dependant on it like it can with the laxatives. My ds was severely constipated like your daughter and miralax was the only thing that helped him regulate. I hope you find something that works its so hard to see them in so much pain.
