My Confession: I Will NOT Tell You Merry Christmas!

Posted by   + Show Post

And yes, I am using my SN. I'm not to chicken to post that I 'need' to post this anon.
First off, let me say that I am really tired of Christians saying that "They" are taking Christ out of Christmas and how 'wrong' it is to say "Happy Holidays" instead. They, of course, being everyone who isn't Christian.
Christmas is the Christian interpretation of the Pagan holiday of Saturnalia. All the traditions- round bulbs on the tree, hanging mistletoe, wreaths, the tree itself- they are Pagan symbols that were adopted by early Catholics when the Church was seeking to convert members.
And Christmas being Christ's birthday? Right. Even Christians believe that he was born sometime around spring. That whole thing about it being the Saviors' birth? That, too, is a Pagan belief. At Yule, or the Winter Solstice, Pagans see it as the birth of our God, from our Goddess. So, if you REALLY want to celebrate Jesus' birth, pick a springtime date and celebrate then.
Next, and just as importantly- THERE ARE OTHER HOLIDAYS THIS TIME OF YEAR THAT HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH CHRITMAS!!!
There is Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Bodhi Day, and New Years, to name a few. So, to say "Happy holidays" is not to 'Take Jesus out of Christmas', but, more simply, to INCLUDE other religions and let people know that, while you don't believe, you still RESPECT their right to believe and practice any religion they feel, in their hearts, is true.
Even if I was Christian, I would say "Happy holidays" because I would know that there are others, and by acknowledging them, I would know that I am NOT taking Jesus out of the season- just accepting that there are others and RESPECTING the fact that they HAVE THE RIGHT TO PRACTICE AND CELEBRATE THEIR HOLIDAYS, TOO!

That is all.
Have a very nice holiday season, one and all.
Love and light.

How am I insulting and condemming Catholic/Christians by stating the truth?

Quoting Lovemyfamilyof8:

Wow, Christmas is a symbolic time to honor Jesus. I couldn't give two ounces of puppy shit what you believe BUT you are insulting and condemning Catholics/ Christians the exact same way they did you. You're a sad sad person, Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas ( from me a Catholic) Happy Kwanzaa and Happy Hanukkah.... I mean really? Who cares lady?

I posted something like this on my fb the other day because I am SO sick of seeing it...and I AM a catholic!

"I have a Christmas tree because I celebrate Christmas. I also would love a yule log (they are beyond pretty). I say Merry Christmas, I also say Merry Yule & Happy Chanukah. I also say happy holidays. The holiday season isn't *just* for Christians, it's for everyone who celebrates something this season. I know I can have a merry christmas and i don't have to be ashamed to wish my friends a merry christmas, i also know that wishing someone a happy holidays isn't going to ruin my celebrations or take away from what I celebrate

COEXIST. It's not complicated."

Although, i would hope that you would wish me a merry christmas, knowing that's what i celebrate just like i would wish you a happy/,merry whatever it is you celebrate if i knew. I would also hope you wouldn't get offended if i did say Merry Christmas, because if you wished me a Happy Solstice or merry yule, or happy kwanzaa, i wouldn't be offended.

You're complaining about a very visible, but extremely TINY percentage of the population.  I'm Catholic and it doesn't bother me one bit when people say Happy holidays.  It's perfectly logical to me.  Also, I grew up in an area with a very large Jewish population and none of my many Jewish friends got upset if someone mistakenly said Merry Christmas to them.  Honestly, almost no one cares.  So let it go.  Life's too short.

Eh,if it were up to me I'd do away with holidays period. But,be that as it may,I don't really care what people celebrate,if people celebrate, how they celebrate it,or what words they use to reference it.If people want to tell me Merry Christmas, happy holidays,or even fuck you,I just give them a smile and say "Thank you!" In short,it simply is not a big thing to me.If Christians want to gripe about how persecuted they are because they somehow feel Christ is being taken out of Christmas...I don't care.If pagans are butt hurt because Christians 'stole' their practices and claimed them for their own....I don't care.I fail to see why it should be such a big thing to anybody else either.Goes for all the other beliefs, ceremonies, celebrations, religions, etc.

One final note.I am posting anon not because I 'need' to,but because it's an option that I have every right to use or not to use and I simply 'want' to.Yet another thing that totally confounds me around here, this need to bash or insult the anons.Maybe that's the real reason I use it.Just to irritate all you stick up the butts who hate it so much.

But that's my point. It's not ALL Christmas. There are other holidays, too, that are not at all like Christmas.

Quoting embersparkle:

Ummm it's called Christmas so what does it matter ? You don't have to believe in Jesus to say Merry Christmas. I think this whole oh don't say Christmas is petty.

I heard that He was born around the time he died. And he died and was resurrected in spring, so that's where I got that.
You may be right, though. I don't know.
All I know is that He wasn't born in December.

Quoting rockinmomnwife:

I will continue to say Merry Christmas and will not get offended if I am replied with something other than merry Christmas. I do not see the big deal.
You are right about Christmas but I think most scholars have agreed that Jesus was born sometime around July or I have heard September but never heard Spring.
