So I have 3 year old ds from my first relationship and recently gave birth to my 3 month old with s/o now. Hs and I have been together for 2 years. Before we had our dd s/o and ds got along great. They would play together and just have fun. Now its like ww3 between them. I can't take the constant strain on our relationship because of the arguments we have about my son. Idk what to do. I always take my son's side to defend him or protect him and s/o says I don't respect his authority over my son. Does anyone else have this problem with there s/o amd children from previous relationship? I personally think he has no place to punish or discipline my son. I am his rmother and his father s very involved. I think s/o should just be ds friend.

I would tend to agree with you if s/o was just a boyfriend, but if he's going to be a permanent, long-term part of your lives, then it's important for your ds to see him as a father figure, including when discipline is necessary.
