How could someone do this to a child???

My daughter had a pen pal here on cafe mom. (I wont share names. that's just rude)

The girls messaged each other for a long time. Since September of this year talking about their days at school, how they have the same name, both do ballet. they were the same age. and had so much fun talking about silly stuff.

well now, that mom isnt a member here anymore.

so then i searched with the picture of her little girl, hoping to find a blog, or face book so the girls could stay in contact.

then pops up the exact picture, for a little girl with a completely DIFFERENT name, DIFFERENT moms name, different state, wasnt even the same AGE!

i gave that person pictures of MY little girl.

HOW DARE SHE LIE!

Edit for the people who dont read replies

DD had a penpal because it was homework. It was the start of the year project. They started in september and are supposed to continue until their paper is due the first week of jan.

because school is almost 100% virtual based now

every single assignment they have right now (5th grade) involves the computer.

they were TOLD to find an online penpal and then write a report about it. they were instructed to not give any personal information out.

i THOUGHT that cafeMOM would have been a safer option for her than facebook

That is a prime example of why you don't need to share personal info with people.

Why did you allow your child to have a pen pal on a MOM site?

Seems to me you should be more pissed at yourself then some idiot online.

You should be mad at yourself more than anything.

So your daughter was corresponding with another members child?

I guess it's a lesson learned. You can not trust people on the internet.

Which is why you don't give out personal information and pictures of your child to any stranger on the internet who claims to be a mom with a kid the same age. You know how easy it is to just copy and paste a kid off of google and say "this is my child"? Could have been some weirdo, might not have even been a woman. Hope you've learned your lesson.
