What's the deal about preteens & teens (12 & up) drinking coffee? I mean, my parents never told us we couldn't and I've been drinking it since I was 10, it never hurt me or my siblings.

I have seen parents give their Kids , pepi, coke, mountain dew etc. And that's ok. Mountain Dew has a ton of caffeine in it, so why is that ok, but coffee is so wrong. At least the coffee has some health benefits.

And for kids who have ADHD or other issures it can be a help. I have bad allergies and my brother has asthma. When we were kids we'd drink coffee to help with the symptoms.

That's my question. Why do you think some parents give kids other drinks with sugar, corn syrup and caffeine, such as Mountain Dew, etc, But Coffee is a big no no ?

I'd let my kids drink coffee before any type of soda, but it does have addicting factors.  So, I'll try to hold them off as long as I can.  The same with soda.

My son is 2 so no he can not have coffee lol he is already bouncing through the house. But he also doesn't drink soda except maybe a little sprite here and there. When he is older I won't have a problem with him drinking coffee I love coffee and also drank it as a teen

Idk my 12 yr old drinks coffee to help manage his adhd symptoms.
At times he even shares a cup with the school officer in the morning.

I don't let my kids drink any of the drinks you mentioned except for special occasions. caffeine can stunt growth (not literally, it just fills them so they cant eat enough nutritious food), and it is a stimulant. It can really make things difficult for a perfectly healthy child, but it wreaks havoc on kids with add/ADHD or other behavioral problems. It can also interfere with sleep if consumed to near bedtime. I barely let myself drink it, why Would I give it to my kids?!? There are occasions it can be helpful (coffee for instance) has some good qualities like antioxidants, and it aids with regularity, ect. But keep in mind, this is more of an early morning drink, so many of the bad side effects are negated.
