**edit** Something I thought would never happen to me happened today

Posted by   + Show Post
Went to pick up my daughter from the after school program today at her school and my daughter wasn't there. My daughter is 7 years old and in the second grade. I started getting worried after about 5 minutes of the principal looking for her as well. When he asked to talked to me and another parent I knew it was trouble. Our kids are in the same class and apparently they took off walking after school. We didn't know they were missing for about 2 hours. It took us about 45 minutes to find them. They had the police on the way when another school called saying they were there. They had walked about 4 miles across 5 very busy intersections and multiple other smaller intersections. I never thought in a million years my daughter would take off like that. Her dad lives in texas and was freaking. Out and I couldn't stay on the phone with him because it was dying. I'm sooo thankful they are ok... And terrified of what could have happened.

**edit**
Many have asked about if she is being punished. I honestly have no idea how to punish her for this. Any suggestions.. Also is there any movies you can think of that would be good for her to watch about a kidnapping?

I am a single parent its not possible for me to be there to pick her up if i am working. Which is why she was in the after school program.

This is not something I'd be punishing my child for.  I would, however, make sure I am there at least 15 minutes before school is let out to make sure she has no choice but to go with me home.

Our children are all bussed to and from school.  Only the older two (ages almost 15 and 12) are allowed to walk up and down the driveway on their own (it's about a quarter mile long), but the little ones (6 and 8) are escorted by me daily to and from the house and bus.  There are no sidewalks where we live (rural area), no one walks to school around here, and children are not allowed to leave the school unattended.  The buses are called by number, and children escorted from classroom to bus by the teachers.  I can't wrap my head around a child that young being able to just walk out of the school on her own.

Glad she's okay.  You must have been a wreck!

Holy shit!
Ok to better answer your other question- the school should absolutely send a letter home explaining what happened.

I'd be the principal's worst nightmare.

I would have been terrified as hell and crying the whole time! I'm glad that they're safe.

DDs old school had rules set in place for dismissal to parents, bus, and after school care. Her after school care was on site and they were walked to and signed into it. If the kid was absent, the staff would call to verify.

Hopefully this leads to new procedures at the school

I have heard that some Twatty ANON started that ridiculous rumor, lol

I have NEVER been in Jail nor do I plan on ever going, lol

Hurricane Sandy kicked my ass......my lights, gas, water & heat were off for a short time.
I was however escorted out of the cable company by 3 mall security guards BUT I do have my internet and phone but no cable tv as of yet, lol
