1. Go to the used store, and buy warm thick blankets

2. Buy matches

3. Buy canned foods and pickled foods, such as soups (that you do not have to add water to), canned fruits, canned veggies, canned meat (such as chicken, spam, vienna sausages, etc), pickles, pickled veggies such as asparagus, roasted red peppers, etc)

4. Stock up a little bit on things like baby wipes, wet ones, etc for cleaning yourselves

5. Kids and/or baby tylenol, adult asprin, etc

6. Make sure your children have warm thick socks, shoes that are a little too big, and warm clothes with no holes in them

7. Make sure your kids have gloves, scarf, hat, coats, AND snow pants. The used store is a great place to find them cheap.

8. Candles to go with your matches

9. About 3 solar powered flashlights per person in your family

10. Ensure your car has a full tank of gas, (as full as you can get it) the day before the date you think this is going to happen

11. A very good deadbolt lock for every door leading to outside, and lots of wood and nails for your windows, for any glass doors to outside, etc

12. A deadbolt for a safe room (IE - one room in the house where you all sleep), and a secondary way out of the safe room, (IE - a crowbar to get the wood off the windows in a hurry and a fire ladder in case the safe room is on the second floor)

13. Bottled water

14. Powdered milk for kids and adults, formula for babies

15. Pepper spray, hunting knife, guns with bullets, two per each adult unless your child or children are old enough and have been taught to shoot if not just adults

16. MREs, you can buy those fairly cheap at just about any army store.

ALSO - Never ever drink any water, unless it has been boiled first, (with the exception of your bottled water).
