I have a son who has Autism. He has some trouble communicating and lots of fine motor skills issues. I entered him into a contest for an iPad and was notified he was a finalist last week... Sadly, he didn't win the contest.

I had posted onto my Facebook that he was a finalist and then updated so my friends would know he hadn't won... A few days later, I got a private message from a friend of a friend who also has a child with Autism, who I had only chatted with a few times online, but have never met in person. She said that she wanted to help another child in the community and would like to buy DS an iPad for Christmas because of how much the technology had helped her daughter so far!

We are meeting up next week so that she can give it to us. I am SO excited for my son and even more grateful that someone would care enough to help him have this device that our family can't afford to buy for him.

and incidently Walmart is selling an IPad bundle today for ..i think my email said 189 with free shipping....

i have a niece with autism and my bff has a son with some form of autism....

We managed to get the iPad, but couldn't afford the Proquo 2 go (not sure of the spelling.) There's another one that's less expensive that I have google the name of.

Thank you. I have two with ASD and my third with a disorder found with children that have ASD. My 3rd uses the IPad.

There are all sorts of programs out there that can help you get a tablet to help your son. Autism Cares just had open applications last week. The HollyRod Foundation sometimes has grants too. Maybe you can try one of those and be lucky enough to get the technology for your son.

That is great, I wish we could get a break like that ever even with just food or even clothes. We r still waiting for dhs to put our foodstamps on the card. Has been one course meals for over a week almost 2 now and still nothing. My oldest eats more than my husband and has been hungry for the past 2 weeks. He is 13 and grows like a weed, so food and clothes he goes through so fast and even gas is scarce to go anywhere we need to go. Neither of us has found a job yet and both are looking even though we plan to move after tax time out of state. Hope to have better luck in different state with finding a job. Oldest and middle son have asbregers as well.

Here's a listing of communication apps and their pricing. I know that it's more expensive, but the proquo 2 go (can't seem to spell it right.) is the one they recommend the most. I believe that's the one Carly Fleischmann(Carly's Voice) uses.
