Both.  I do think we sometimes go about treating it wrong at times.  Often there is a need to treat it as a criminal issue, but when no one other than the abuser has been endangered it should be treated as more of a medical issue than criminal.

I think it's more medical than a criminal issue. I also think that most arguments for legalizing pot can apply to *most* illicit drugs.

Wouldn't that make her think they were even more of an idiot?  The things leading up to abuse are often indicators of idiocy.

so do you put pot on the same pedestal as heroin?

Interesting. I'm going to say both. Criminal for the obvious reasons and medical because it is most definitely an addiction to a narcotic in which the body is in absolute NEED of the substance. I know a girl that is currently taking a drug prescribed to her by her doctor to help her beat the cravings for the drug that she was addicted to. Almost like a Nicoret(?) for substance abuse. It seems to be working. She has to go to the doctor every single day to receive her pill and provide a urine sample. So far, she is 50 some days clean.
