Yes I substitute at a local elementary school. Yes the students call me Mr. Marc. And guess what? The students are messed up beyond belief. To think that one's sexual orientation or gender identification impedes one's ability to teach is ridiculous.
ETA: I made this post in response to a post that was deleted where the anonymous OP stated that sexual minority individuals should not be allowed in a classroom.
I have had some kids ask me if I am a boy or girl. I tell them I am a boy and they leave it at that. All the kids have only known me as Mr. Marc (on a professional level, some know me as my son's mom or dad).
Quoting Anonymous:Tbh it would bother me only if you were discussing it with my young child. My child should honestly identify you are one gender and stay that way until you get a surgery to change it nor should they even know of the situation.
I tell them I am Mr. Marc and their substitute. I don't have a good picture of me dressed nice so here is a random one.

Quoting Anonymous:
Do they automatically recognize you as a "Mr" or do you tell them that's what you'd like to be called?
Pic?
Ps - I'm not a hater =]

A great way to teach tolerance.
