i asked my dd who is going to get a normal check up tomorrow if shes ever had a pap done since shes been sexually active with her df(4 years), she said "no kaiser doesnt allow them until the person is 21" WHAT?! i started getting mine when iwas 17 and i wasnt even sexually active!!!!! my dd has to wait another year to have a pap done, this is insane to me

what do your hospitals say about this stuff?

Who is Kaiser? The doctors office? She's feeding you a load of bull.

1 mom liked this

I thought it was 21 UNLESS sexually active, in which case you get one every year? That's how our insurance worked, growing up.

kaiser is a huge hospital chain where we live, her df told me the same thing, when she was first pregnant she asked if she was going to need a pap done her doctor said oh no we dont do those until the woman is 21

I don't know what "kaiser" is....but, I'm fairly certain the hospital doesn't dictate what age a woman can get a pap test. It's up to the insurance company whether or not they will cover it, and they will cover it once a year. I think the standard is yearly starting when a woman becomes sexually active or at the age of 21, whichever comes first.

I had my first pap done at 18 because I became sexually active just before my 18th birthday.

It's 21 OR sexually active.

That sounds bogus. They almost ALWAYS do a pap at that first prenatal appt to check for STIs, anything to be alarmed about (IE: cancer)...
