I woke up today to batteries on the floor

SO I woke up today to hear my baby crying, I go and see a box of opened batteries on the floor. I check, he has not gotten into them, Thank God, but I am pissed. The husband is out smoking, I find this out when he comes back in. He had taken the batteries out and just left them, knowing the baby (a year old) was up and walking around. WTF? He thinks I'm making a big deal of it, but I am pissed. What if something had happened?

To add, why were they awake and not me, I work night shift, so I sleep in later than him. He's up at like 3am and I'm not up til 8am.

How big were the batteries? I've never thought about that being a hazard.

I guess was lucky in that neither child ever had an interest in them.

I know, I am so lucky he did not pay attention to them. I thought it was common sense, but I guess not for my husband. Maybe my angry and tired words knocked some sense into him.
