most useless advice ever!

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post
It's only 8 weeks ago that I had my son, but since becoming a mom I've already noticed that a lot of recommendations are just useless. Even when I previously thought it was good advice.

What is the most useless/ridiculous advice you've ever been given?

Wake the baby every four hours to eat, no matter how deeply s/he is sleeping

Sleep as much as you can before the baby is born because after you won't sleep. So sleeping all the time when I was 7 months pregnant will help me how when my 2 week old is screaming at 2am?

that i should stop breastfeeding after 3 months, because after the first three months, you're basically just giving them water.

The lactation consultant at the hospital came to my room at 6:30 pm the day after DD was born. After watching me struggle to nurse for approximately 30 seconds she told me that if we didn't "figure it out" by 9:30 that night, my baby was going to develop sleepy baby syndrome, and then we would have several terrible issues to deal with concerning her. Nice advice and stress to put on a new mom not yet 24 hours after giving birth and almost no sleep. I blame her almost completely for creating issues that became ppd. Because of her I also didn't even attempt to breast feed my second daughter. I just wanted a nice hospital experience, and that's exactly what I got.

Was that when she was starting on solid foods?

Quoting Anonymous:

I added infant cereal and the pureed banana's to my dd's formula bottles all the time. She loved it. It was her morning breakfast treat. Her dr told me I was doing just fine, he even told me it was perfectly fine to add the cereal to her bottles..

I don't understand why that is such horrible advice??
