My uncle had surgery yesterday so my mom decided to have christmas at her house. She messages me "need u to bring the drinks for Christmas please there will be 22-24 PPL here 2 liter of pop is on sale this week for $1.00 from what gma told me"

I think it's kinda rude of her to tell me what to bring.

She didn't ASK. She TOLD.

I guess it just depends on your relationship with your mom

We always do pot luck in my family. I personally would find it normal. I suppose your mom should have ASKED if you'd mind.

So don't buy it and say you never got the message.

No, I don't think so. I don't know your mom though.

Lol. No that's not rude. Your mom is hosting Christmas and asking for help.

I'd rather my mom tell me what she needs than showing up with something she already has.

Normally that wouldn't be a problem. It's better than having to buy paper plates, plastic cups, the cutlery, napkins, the meat and the drinks.

That happened to us once.

I would be happy I knew exactly what to bring instead of some sort of pot luck type thing. And soda is easy. You are getting off good.

I don't think it is.  Typically a party host tries to coordinate things.  Plus she found you something on the cheaper side.  Bring that and of you have your heart on making something bring that too.  Plus it is your Mother, communicate if it that much of an issue.
