i went on today to look at my score (pretty horrible- 609. eek!)

it also had a list of all my 'debt'-- almost $1,000 in credit cards.

i paid those off about a week ago, completely. now, i just have my student loans- which doesnt start until Feb.

I clicked on the update and it still shows my 'debt'.

any idea why? or how often it really updates?

It takes more than a week to update.

it depends on how often the creditor reports.  some do more often than others (and i'm no expert so I dont know the ins and outs but contact the credit bureau and they may be able to provide more details).

It doesn't seem to update all that often. I think I've made two payments so far that still haven't shown up.

Sometimes, the creditor doesn't report them paid until month end. Check it early January and it will likely go up.
