Guns and mental illness

If there was a mentally ill person living in your home, would you make the decision to purchase a gun if you knew this person would potentially have access to it?

My DH has been wanting to get a gun for quite some time. He says it would be the best way to protect our family. But my DH also has a mental illness that requires him to take several medications, including an anti-psychotic, every day. He takes the pills religiously...but what if he were to stop suddenly or run out?

I don't want to assume that he's going to have some type of breakdown or that he would turn against us if he did, but you just never know. What would you do?

I would. I would also make sure that individual had absolutely no possible way to access the gun.

Well if he does have a break down and wants to kill he will whether he has a gun or not. Idk if that helps but that's just how I feel about it :)

No. I'm also mentally ill and would never allow a gun in my house for that reason.
