Why do people think something magical happens

when a baby turns one that makes them think the mother has to stop breastfeeding. a one year old is a baby still. there is nothing wrong with breastfeeding an 18 month old or even a two year old. maybe even a three year old at naptime and bedtime.

Plan on nursing Abigail a minimum of two years. after that it is up to her when we stop

 Because WIC stops when the child turns 1 so thats when they stop.

...that is the common practice for my area.

I got tons of crap from my mother for breastfeeding my daughter after the age on one. In fact she wasn't weaned until a little after three, I am sure my son is going to be an extended breast feeder too.

bottles affect jaw development last I read. breasts do not

breastmilk continues to provide very vital nutrition

weaning is so difficult I hear. so much easier to let baby do it on their own timetable lol

You have to draw a line somewhere.  Some choose to draw it sooner rather than later.  It is a matter of personal choice.

I stopped when my DD was 12 months she's 14 months now, that's just my preference. I'm not against anyone who nurses longer.
