DS is almost 6. he has to be first at EVERYTHING. just now i gave him a bowl of chips and got myself a bowl too. he came running up to me saying "i finished first mom! i win!!" once again i told him nicely it was not a competition and he needs to knock it off with the whole "i win, i was first" thing. seriously kid. knock it off!!

I think every kid does that though, lol. At least when I was teaching daycare they definitely would do that stuff, no matter if we tell them it's not nice and it's better to go, "You did a great job too!" He should save that whole "I'm first" stuff for when he's in school ;) first to get all A's and stay that way throughout his whole education~

no. we were living with my in laws and him and his uncles started it. now we live on our own and he's gotten worse. he has no one to compete with at home!! he has to be first to the door, to his room, to the kitchen, to the shower, basically everything you can think of he needs to be first.

both DH and i have had many talks about how its not important to be first as long as you tried your best. it has not worked so far. Le sigh

Just let him enjoy being first. There is nothing wrong with a little comepetition. He will grow out of it
