I think I just killed Santa for my 8 year old.

Convo while dismantling Christmas tree:

Me: so did you have a good Christmas?

Son: yep

Me: like everything you got?

Son: yep.do you think I can take reading tests on these books at school?

Me: oh yeah that's why I got them.

Son:huh?

Me: what?*already realizing the slip

Son: I asked you if I can take reading tests on these books and..

Me: and.I said yes that's why Santa got them.

Son: you said you got them.

Me: well I meant Santa. Go clean your room.

I.feel so bad. Idk if I should just let it go or break it to him.

Oops! He's about the right age for the Santa myth to end, I think. Though I have no experience.

lol I have done that before, luckily the kids didn't notice. I wouldn't do or say anything else, but as soon as your kid flat out asks, "is santa real?" I would tell the truth at that point.

I'm sure it will be okay... I think I was about that age when my parents would make little slips like that-- it eased me into figuring out there was no Santa in a non-upsetting way, if you know what I mean.

I love the "go clean your room" response- that's what I say to my kids when I want out of a conversation lol.

if he thinks about for a while, he'll figure it out now.  if he asks you, be honest with him.  it makes you feel like crap, i know, but they won't believe in santa forever.  i recently went through this with my almost 7 year old & the tooth fairy.  i forgot to leave money the night she lost her tooth....and then forgot the 2nd night too!  i told her i was so sorry that i forgot.  "you mean the tooth fairy forgot?"  she hasn't mentioned it, but i'm sure she's been thinking about it.
