Can blood type play a role in jaundice?

Before I was released from the hospital, the on call pediatrician came by my room to discuss my sons condition.  He said his levels were looking good and that we would be able to take him home.  He asked me what my blood type was, and I told him o+.  He said that my sons jaundice was most likely brought on by the difference in blood type.  He said my son was a+.  My daughter was also born with jaundice.  But I was never told her blood type.  It makes me wonder if that was the reason for her jaundice as well.  I have never heard of this being the cause though.  Has anyone else heard of different blood types causing a baby to become jaundice?

i think so.  my son had jaundice while we were in the hosptial & i googled the condition.  it seems like i remember blood type being a factor.  it didn't apply to my situation so i didn't read it all.

i didn't help at all, did i?

Yes.  My dd was born the same way.  My son is my blood type so he had no issues.  My dd is her father's blood type.  I didn't realize this until the nurse told me and asked about our blood type either.

He is 6 days.  He has an appontment for Thursday.  But he has been doing great.  At first it was hard to get him to really eat, but now he is starting to eat like a horse lol
