So my kids can't have an unexcused absence but if I pull them out and 'home school' that's fine? LOL

My kids school is very strict on attendance. So far my son has missed 4 days due to having surgery. (That was excused) He will be missing 5 days (unexcused) at the end of Jan for a vacation. The school is having a fit and will assign a social worker to me from the state. So I am in trouble for him missing school but it's ok with the state if I homeschool and attendance is not mandated? LOL

ETA DS is 11 and in the 6th grade, which is still elementary school here

When a child is homeschooled they actually DO school work. Not SKIP TO GO ON A VACATION!

1-my husband cannot take off the months of March, April, Sept, or Oct. So spring break is out. 2-we are taking a very expensive vacation as it is and the price would double if I waited until schools out for summer. We couldn't afford it then.

DEPENDS ON THE PARENTS! I know I didn't. But of course I could do 3 times the amount of work in half the time as kids in public schools. We were always done beginning of April and never started til mid September. I finished my jr yr of hs in 4 mos.

I would never pull my kid out for vacation.  He only misses if he is sick anyways.

I always wondered about that. I was homeschooled and am homeschooling my children. I love having a flexible schedule! My son was in school for a bit and it was a pain in the butt and cramped my style, lol.
