I was watching the news and a couple ran into the ocean to save their dog. The wife and dog got out safely but the husband drowned. I know some of you ladies say a dog is another family member but I would leave my df, if he put himself or our family in danger over a dog! That's taking things way too far.

Why did he drown? There are a lot of details missing...I can't say whether or not I'd do the same without knowing the circumstances...

How did he die? Did he get caught up in a riptide?
And if one of my dogs was in the ocean and couldn't get out you bet your ass I would try and save them. I would do that for any animal.

Hell, I would've done the same thing if I were him and I knew I could. I don't like to see a life, regardless of what it is, animal or man, suffer when it still has a chance.

It was a rouge wave... there is no way of predicting that. It was simply and accident.
He, his wife, and the dog were knocked down by a wave while walking on the beach. The man and dog stood up and tried to save the dog but was knocked down again and pulled out to sea.

He drowned trying to save the dog. The water was very dangerous...a lot of waves.

I agree that there are a lot of details missing. However, I adore my dogs and I would absolutely try to save one of them if they were in trouble. It's just my nature. With that said, I would not put my family's lives at risk in the mean time.
I'm going to assume that the man did not think that he or his family was at risk when he made the attempt to save his dog. Poor guy.
