do you expect your s/o to stay home from work on your birthday?

Today is sil's birthday. She expects the world to stop for her. She told her dh that he better be home today because she's going out to lunch with her parents. He has to take her dinner tonight plus have tons of presents for her. She's pissed that I have company and am going to the dentist so I am not seeing her today. I don't feel the need to celebrate her birthday beyond a happy birthday which I'll text her later.

I don't even take off on my birthday. In fact, last year I had to leave work early since we had to take both our girls to the doctor since they both had high fevers and other symptoms of ear infections, which they had. This year I won't be working my birthday since it is not my weekend to work. I could still be working though just to pick up some extra hours.
