So how does a family of 4 survive on a $70 weekly grocery budget? I don't get it! I live near Columbia MO, family of 5 and we spend $150 on average per week. We dine out 2-3 per month as well but that's "fun" money.
Explain please!
What's your budget and what city are you in?
$70 a week I could do in a heart beat. I'm in NH. Thats what I tend to spend every two weeks right now. But we would be more comfortable at $50 a week.

I don't see it either really. If you had a good base in the freezer/in the pantry, like plenty of meats already stockpiled in the freezer and plenty of canned goods already on the shelves, then yes, $70 a week would be plenty. But milk is close to $5 a gallon here in the southeast, bread is over $2 a loaf - that's $15 of it per week right there, leaving $55 to buy everything else.
Frugality is a lost art these days, though, I think. My mother, she could probably have gotten by on half that, honestly. She never spent money on soda - we drank Kool-Aid, tea, or water. We never ate out except on Father's day or Mother's day. I never had a McDonalds meal until I was about 11 years old when I was invited to a classmate's b-day party that was held at the one in town. Momma cleaned the bird instead of buying just packs of chicken legs/thighs/breasts/wings. She was the most frugal person I've ever known, and probably will know ever.
