Since when are rice and beans crap?

I just saw a reply in another post stating that rice and beans are crap.

I consider these two ingredients to be very wholesome and healthy. No salt, no added sugar, and I THINK there are no preservatives (double check that, I'm not sure). They are cheap in my area and easily make meals that last for days. They are also very easy to make. The money you save from not buying meat for that meal could be used toward vegetables or fruit.

Do you consider them to be "crap"? What are your favorite bean dishes?

Information about peas and lentils are welcome too!

I love brown rice and beans. Very healthy.

White rice and canned beans would be stretching the healthy value.

I like them. It's a simple, healthy meal. Cheap too.

I love brown rice and lentils cooked together. Garbanzo beans are super good too, whole or mashed.

Our bodies cannot digest either of them so they are actually anti nutrients. They really are not healthy for us.

no I don't consider them to be crap, but definitely not a main course for a meal. I would eat that for a side. Beans don't really have that much protein.

Not crap at all.  Especially if using brown rice.

Makes me wonder what that poster eats.
