I consider these two ingredients to be very wholesome and healthy. No salt, no added sugar, and I THINK there are no preservatives (double check that, I'm not sure). They are cheap in my area and easily make meals that last for days. They are also very easy to make. The money you save from not buying meat for that meal could be used toward vegetables or fruit.
