teaching our children how to survice when out of the four walls.

Considering that children are in school most of the day how are they teaching them how  to live beyond the four walls?

I think that they are not only being "socialized"

1. To place under government or group ownership or control.
2. To make fit for companionship with others; make sociable.
3. To convert or adapt to the needs of society.

I don't think that is what I want for my children. Do you want that for yours?
I think that schools are failing our children.

Generally speaking, I agree. The traditional public school system makes sheep of our children and I don't trust it. I think they squash the independent thought process, teach conformity, and supress creativity. My kids are in a very freedom loving charter school now, and I'd homeschool them if they weren't there. At my kids' school, their indivual personalities are welcome.

It isn't their job to teach that. That is YOUR job as their PARENT.

We homeschooled up until this year and we loved it but I love my kids schools too. They are all about teaching children to think independently, there is very little fact memorization going on but a lot of open ended questions.

You are right. That is why I withdrew my children and homeschool now. :) I wasn't going to fight to change what they are doing in schools because it would take someoneto move a mountain. It would take years and years and in that time they will have graduated under socialist control.

Isn't that our job as parents? Schools shouldn't be teaching our children everything.

Yep. And if you're that displeased with your children's school then homeschool. If you can't homeschool then quit bitching.

This. A schools job should be intellectual information only (science, math, history) Teaching a child to function in a real world is for parents to teach
