Buying Lunch with Celiacs....She's home!

My DD, who will be 7 in a few weeks, has asked to buy lunch for the first time. She wants to experience it just like everyone else, and I completely understand but it makes me so nervous. I know it is not life threatening after just 1 exposure but to watch her cry and scream because she is so much pain is heartbreaking.

:::BIG BREATH:::

She is getting the Chef Salad, No roll and a Raw Veggies/Fruit. All their salad dressing is gluten free, so there is that. I know that other gluten free kids buy lunch so the staff is familiar with the disease.

I hate trusting other people to understand the little quarks and hidden gluten's but that is their job...right?

She came home happy. Said that she didn't have any problems and that she feels great!! Usually we know within two hours if she is going to react to something. Thanks for the stories lady!!

Aubry was couldn't have milk or eggs for over a year while her gut healed from the Celiacs.

I also have Celiacs too! And completely understand and I would NEVER eat in my school cafeteria, ever! But they aren't versed in Celiacs (outside of the fact that the food is just gross!)

I dont have celiacs but I am allergic to shrimp as are both my kids, my father and little brother. Im also allergic to the chemical used ti cure bacon (trader joes is now my best friend! $4 for a lb of bacon!!!)

Ds is also allergic to red dyes.

I suspected Celiac for a long time. I did a brief GF diet a few years ago. It made me feel better. However when my Lupus got out if control and my Rheumatologist sent me to an endocrinologist did a doctor test me for it. I have absorption issues medication wise along with the physical symptoms of Celiac.
