Mom Arrested for Leaving Kids in Hot Car Reportedly Took Nap While Son Died - Is there any excuse for this??
Heather Jensen, the mother of two young boys who died after she allegedly left them in the car, has been arrested. This god-awful incident occurred on November 27 of last year, and the boys were reportedly left in the car for a whopping 90 minutes. They both tragically passed away from hyperthermia -- one was air-lifted to a hospital after Jensen allegedly returned to her car; the other had died on the scene. According to the sheriff's office, Jensen has been charged with two counts of child abuse resulting in death, two counts of criminally negligent homicide, and one count of false reporting to authorities. Originally, Jensen told police that she left her kids in the car for 10 minutes, but later on she allegedly admitted that they were in the vehicle for 90 minutes while she got into the truck of a friend.
But this story gets way worse. A family friend describes Jensen's behavior at the hospital, and it's truly insane.
Sharon Romero, the godmother of William and Tyler Jensen, the poor, sweet boys who passed away, said that she was "excited" when she found out Jensen had been arrested. She described Jensen's supposed weird and inappropriate behavior after they got to the hospital where her sons were. Romero said: "My boyfriend had to yell at her to get out of the car to see her son. She saw her son for about ten minutes and then went and took a nap in the waiting room for four hours." If Romero's account is accurate, this is one of the most disturbing things I've ever heard. Who could possibly take a nap while their child is fighting for their life? I don't understand how it's even physically possible.
If what police reports are saying is true, and Jensen did leave her children alone in a car for 90 long minutes, it's absolutely inexcusable. However, that said, I'm sure she didn't mean or want this to be the outcome of her supposed irresponsible actions. Even if you don't want to be a parent, even if you think it's okay to leave your kid in a car by themselves, it has to be the most devastating thing on this earth to see your children like this.
Really, no justice can ever be served for what happened to these two small boys who had their whole lives ahead of them. But if Jensen is found guilty, perhaps her long sentence in jail will give her time to think about the heinous crime that was committed -- and how it could have easily been prevented.
