^^^ the last guy (I'm not going to add all the comments) is ridiculous. People tell him to call CPS not the police and he just call at them a douche bag.

Police are there to protect and serve the public. Everyone in that situation was protected. He did the right thing.

Hmm...interesting (not meant with any sarcasm, I truly find it interesting).  I will have to ask my dh, who has been a cop for over 16 years and is currently in the traffic division, what his procedures dictate on whether or not he could do this.  I agree with you, depending upon the road, if crossing it is a safety hazard, the city needs to look into it and hopefully do something about it.

On a side note, I would much rather see coverage of an officer helping a grandma cross the road than of police brutality or some other offense.  I get tired of a few bad officers giving the rest of them, who are good and honest (like my dh), a bad name.

Quoting darcibeisheim:

did this intersection not have traffic control devices.. I have a light ontop of my car, but like the police, I have only certian times that I can turn it on...

abuse might not be the right word.... but he could have handled it differently and if that intersection is so dangerous the city needs to look at making it safer.

Quoting zoo003:

If he was in the middle of the road, then he was blocking traffic so that no one would run over the grandma.  If he was just pulled over and assisted her across the street, then cars may not have stopped.  I am not saying that this what happened, but even if he was in the middle of the road, I still don't think it was an abuse of power.

Quoting darcibeisheim:

in the middle of the road, it was an abuse of his power, no matter how good of a deed.. he could have easily pulled off the roadway and assisted her across the street safely.

Quoting Retrokitty:

I think it was in the middle of the road but I don't know.

Quoting darcibeisheim:

it depends... was his car off the side of the road? if it was.. he was fine..

I think this falls under the "serve" portion of the "protect and serve" credo. I'm cool with it.

It's funny that people can make a big deal out of anything

Good on him.  Where the hell is their Canadian spirit? Shameful!
