Is this true???
My nephew who is 8 and autistic, was at my house with his mom (my dh sister). We were playing a game of scene it. And he kept answering all the questions correctly. I then say to him" wow Jimmy you are a genius". My sil gets upset and tells me you never tell.and autistic child something he may not be able to live
Up to, it's best to keep expectations low.


Is this true, was I wrong

No clue...I am always telling my 7 yr old son he is smart.

this only my son is four, and his EE teachers tell all the kids how smart they are.

My ds 14 has aspergers and is a genius. If you keep your expectations low for any child they will only go so far.

My son has Asperger's and I always tell him he is very smart. Why not give the kid compliments when you can.

My son has autism and I don't think you did anything wrong.  Some kids on the spectrum can take things literally though, maybe thats what she was upset about?

my 7 year old is high funtioning autistic , he is extremly intelligent and on a iq test was above average , they usually have apptidudes in certain areas mine also remembers everything he sees or hears , he loves to build and awesome with math
