We've been together for ten years now and have two kids together. I have no intention of marrying him. He's never asked and we never talked about marriage. I don't want to get married. So, is he still just my boyfriend, my dh by common law, or what. I have no idea how to introduce him to people. So I just say my husband but I don't like saying that and I don't like calling him my boyfriend because we're more than that. So what should I call him?

Hey same here! Well nine years. I just say this is my other half Chris. Most people just assume we are married anyways. Doesn't matter to us

I would say 'my partner'.

My sister was with her boyfriend for 16 years before they got married this past summer. He was never her husband; my mom would have laughed at her.

We just called him her boyfriend.

Never really thought that much about it.

She would just introduce him as Kevin.

Because he's Kevin.

No one needed to know 'titles'.

Unfortunately, he is just a boyfriend. If your state recognizes common law tho, why not just get married? At this point you would have to divorce anyways if you seperated. What is the difference?

I would call him my partner, or significant other.

Spouse? Significant other?

Just call him by his name? I never introduced people with titles. I just use his name.

Most states do not recognize common law marriages now. I'd just say boyfriend.

People actually go through formal divorces for common law marriages?

Significant other. Or just his name.
