Lets pretend you like the pattern a lot. would you buy plates and bowls from the dollar store (Dollar Tree)?
I want to buy them (and I probably will tonight) but MIL says they are not safe and some how DH is believing her

Sure. If you like the pattern! I've bought cups and plates and had ds decorate them with Sharpies for my inlaws. All safe.

I kinda agree with mil. Dollar store plates are cheaply made and break easily.
I have bought stuff from there and its great for temporary but when you can afford it I would upgrade to something nicer.
I have found some really good stuff for really good prices at Marshalls, big lots, Ross.. Even Walmart and Target carry decent sets.
