Would you be upset? School related

Would you be upset if you found out a 3rd grader had taken a knife to school by accident and faced no punishment for it?
EDIT: It was found in the backpack. The kid gave it up because he knew he wasn't suppose to have it. He accidently left it in his backpack after camping (it was a Monday morning that the knife was found). It was a pocket knife.
no. If it is as you say an accident then a stern talking to will be sufficient with a warning of "next time you will get punished by ...." Accidents happen and honestly they should not ruin a childs life like that. I am also going to assume that the child did not take it out and threaten people with it either, but I am not positive of what all happened.
I used to take a pocket knife to school with me every day when I was in middle and high school and still carry one today. I grew up in Las Vegas, NV and not in the safest of areas. I had to have a way to protect myself should something happen and it came in handy one day when a handicap boy's wheelchair fell off the sidewalk into the right lane of a busy street and the people that were there couldnt get the chair back up. We had to cut him out of it to get him to safety. The seatbelt to the chair had to be replaced but his parents were just happy he was safe.
Would depend. How did this knife "accidentally" go to school with him?
That depends. Did the third grader show anyone or threaten anyone? Did the teachers know about it?
What type of knife? How did it get found? How did the child accidentally bring it?
If it's an accident and there's no prior incidents then I don't think a punishment is necessary.
