Mom Confessions Mom Confessions

PA debaters. A new wording of an old question.

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post
Would you rather your PA tax money go toward helping a family eat or paying for day care?

Let us speculate only on 2 working moms.

Abby works full time but needs assistance with child care for her 2 childern aged 6 months and 3 years.

Susan works part time in the evening so her children (same ages) are always with a parent. They have enough money for bills but need pa for food.

If Abby cut her hours she wouldn't be able to pay their bills, and if Susan worked more hours they would need daycare as well. Which mom is more "worthy" of your tax money?

I work part time as a nurse and my kids do not go to day care and I make 46k per year. Don't qualify for PA

Quoting JP-StrongForTwo:

What makes you say that?

For all we know, Abby is working full time at mc donalds

And susan is working part time as a nurse

Quoting ElitestJen:

Abby.  She has a future with payraises, promotions, and skill-building opportunities.

Oh...and unless you live in La-La Land "bills" are lower on the hierarchy of needs than food.

If I had to choose, I'd give childcare assistance because the mom is working FT and, thus, paying more taxes to offset the PA and the childcare assistance goes towards another person's income who also pays taxes. Someone working PT doesn't seem to be giving her all in trying to get off PA.

Really either, as i am happy for any in need to have help, but probably childcare vouchers. Generally to get childcare, you are required to work or be enrolled in school. The state rate of reimbursement is at a market rate, not usually the private rate. Plus the parent also pays a portion of the cost, so the state is not paying the entire bill. Many of the parents advance in their careers or graduate college and phase out of the childcare subsidy system completely.
My source, I'm a childcare subsidy specialist in my county.

I used to think that you shouldn't have a baby before you could afford one. However, there are only so many years that a woman can have a child. With this economy, it is also taking longer for couples to advance in their careers enough to be able to afford all the needs of a child. I am personally happy for some of my tax money to help them out, within reason of course :)
