Boarding School?

ds11 wants to go to military boarding school next year, he is going into 6th grade next year so thats a no, but the year after i said i'll find one for him

i looked and they're like 40k + a yr!

dh only makes 40k and we have three other children to feed/clothe/house as well as trying to send ds to boarding school!

how the heck are you supposed to support yourself while sending a child away to school?

edit - since this seems to be an on-going theme, ds is NOT special needs, my sn is because i'm a mommy who HAS bi-polar, NOT a mommy TO a bi-polar child, there is no need to find a boarding school for special needs children

Public school is for everyone. Fancy boarding schools are for rich people. Sorry.

I'm sure they have scholarships for stuff like that.

But fuck that, I would never let my 7th grader live his day to day without me there giving my moral guidance and knowing that he is okay. I don't trust people with my kids for a night, much less an entire year. I wouldn't, if I were you. But that's me.

Boarding schools always seemed like the place where adults who didn't necessarily want to deal with raising kids could pay a lot of money so they could still claim to be a good parent.

I you can' afford it then you don't send them. It is not nessacry for him to go. Look and see if there is a local ROTC program he can join instead.

I looked into boarding schools for my daughter.  The ones that admit based on merit have need-based scholarships and tuition waivers.

Not true.  In fact, public schools for a very small population.  That's why they fail so miserably.  And that's why school choice should be a viable option for all parents/kids.

Look for grants, scholarships, and financial aid. Good luck!
