Not sure.
My cousin has a grey patch right in the front of his hairline. It's his birthmark, though.
Red heads are actually more prone to gray hairs. My high school BFF has red hair, and I have teased her since about 4th grade about the gray hairs. My mom has been a beautician for 45 years and my aunt for almost 30 and they both say that red heads have tons of gray, you just don't really see it until you get up on it. Something about the pigment.
I am not saying don't get her check by her ped, but don't be surprised if everything comes back normal.
genes. Dh has had a silver patch on his head since before puberty - his mother had a sivler patch on the same side, similar spot.
Dh is 26 and he gets more and more silvers every year! I love it. Cant wait till hes full salt and pepper like alejandro sans! yummy!
I've had a small (very small about 20 strands or so) patch of gray hair on the top back part of my head for as long as I can remember.
Give me a few minutes, Ill try to help you find some info on loss of pigment in childrens hair. I come across things like this all the time while searching on albinism. Let me see what I have in my book marks for you to read.

It can be caused by things from genetics to disorders. I wouldnt worry too much unless she starts having other symptoms. In which case I would have her checked out. There are some disorders that can cause loss of pigment in the hair.
Quoting CM_Junkie:
It is distributed all over. I was brushing my fingers through her hair because she is sick and wanted comfort and she has a lot of grey/silver hair
Quoting Anonymous:
If it is in one general area, like a patch of white hair, it could be poliosis.

If you want to do your own search I would include words like melanin and pigment in the search. You will get more accurate results then punching in gray hair.
