do you think its child abuse?...

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post
To let a two year olds tooth rot because the parent cannot afford dental insurance or to pay for a visit upfront. They brush the babies teeth in the morning and at night. The tooth came in and quickly rotted from breastfeeding(she said the baby would fall asleep with milk in his mouth). I feel so bad for the baby and atleast its a baby tooth but do you think its child abuse? Also the mom is afraid for when she is able to take the baby to the dentist that they will call Cps on them. Other than this the parents are good parents. She plans on taking him to the dentist next month

Its not abuse but some dental practices will work with them and that would qualify them for medicaid since it is rotten and they really cant afford it. They can take out a loan if they need to, but they have to do something.

I've heard it happens more than people think because of breast feeding. Not because it's breast milk but because of falling asleep with milk in the mouth etc...

Your the fucking idiot. Go google

Quoting mommyrustina:

If anything, breastmilk would have prevented that, even with falling asleep with it in his mouth.

I'm just going off of what she said. She said that the baby would fall asleep with milk in his mouth and she thinks thats why it rotted!

Quoting Anonymous:

It's not from breastmilk you idiot! And she should get medicade if it quickly rotted its probably genetics or the baby hit it on something to discoloure it.

No it's not abuse, my daughter had a tooth crack due to a fall and the dentist said to leave it it will fall out anyways, I got it fixed tho because it was one of her front teeth, but if a dentist says its fine the I doubt it's abuse

I don't think it is Abuse but it is borderline Medical Neglect. I don't think the Dentist will CPS on her BUT she needs to get that child to the dentist faster than next month

Rotting teeth can lead to other health issues, especially heart issues.  She should find a way to get him seen.  Maybe if she takes him to a doctor first the doctor can refer her if that will help her get care for the child, I dunno.  Dental insurance is NOT that expensive - DH and I pay about $17 a month for ours.

Idk, but when I worked for a program that worked directly with CPS, it was considered neglect and cps had to get involved. It was more than one tooth though. It was more like 5.

I would say neglect at most. Def not abuse. Why hasn't she applied for Medicaid or found a dentust that would let her make payments?

Quote the right person before you start throwing around insults..

Not even google university shows any indication of breastmilk being cariogenic. Try again. Breastmilk is capable of killing the bacteria responsible for tooth decay unless the child is predisposed for tooth decay, for example, naturally soft tooth enamel.
