School weather closings - is it like this where you live?

I'm in GA. Schools close if the news even mentions the words ice or snow. It's ridiculoous. My county was closed today due to a 12hr "winter storm advisory". 1/4" ice predicted. There was freezing rain for literally 15 minutes. Many businesses and even the Y closed. The Publix parking lot was salted when I went this evening. I wanted to laugh. Only in the South.

Btw we homeschool - school as usual for us lol.

How does your area respond to a little freezing rain or sleet?

I live in New England. It has to be more than six inches of snow to even consider calling it off.

I live in Chicago, so we have to get AT LEAST 3 FEET before they even consider closing schools here.

Our district closed an hour early.

Which means the high schools got out at 130pm..
And that point it wasnt snowing.

Its not to turn to into the sleet/rain til late.

And stop by 3am.

It depends on how much snow or whatever that we get.

The kids may have just a 2 hour delay in the morning or have the whole day off.

This week they had a 2 hour delay every morning due to the cold. Then today they were sent home 2 hours early because of snow. Lol. We get snow, freezing rain, sleet, and extremely cold weather every year. So, we are used to it, but sometimes the county overreacts. Today really was one of those days.
