I just read this online and thought this would be an interesting topic for discussion.

What do you think?

Quoting tastelikeyum:

0_o did you REALLY just go there?

Quoting Anonymous:

Too many women would go on killing sprees if they stopped having sex. Hey...wait....that's a great idea for population control!

Quoting Anonymous:

Fuck it just don't have sex and don't have any kids. That will cure it all

<--------- was raised in a rich family... did not have anything handed to me on a silver platter---- went to private school from 6-12th grade at a blue ribbon school of excellence.

My mommy did not pay for me to go to college. I am now poor because mommy did not take care of me. You do not see me crying about it. I am 27, I have two kids who I cloth diaper and breastfeed, we do not eat meat, which saves a LOT of money. Hubby is in the National Guard and going to school to be an engineer and I am in nursing school. We are on gevernment assistance for SNAP benefits so we can feed our kids while we go try to make a better life for ourselves. The government sees people like me and my husband as an investment because when we are done with school between the two of us we will make about 170,000 a year.

I agree. If a person can't afford to provide a baby/child with the basic necessities- food, clothing, shelter, medical care- then that person should put off having children until they have a reasonable expectation of being able to do so. Although there is no "right time" to have kids and unexpected financial things do happen, people still need to think ahead. You don't have to be rich to have a baby, but love isn't going to fill a belly with food, keep them warm, or diaper them.

I should probably add that we could feed our kids just fine before hubby got laid off AGAIN! In this economy going to school just seemed like the better choice.

Has it ever occurred to either one of you to perhaps NOT GET PREGNANT in  lieu of shopping around for the best abortion prices?

Quoting TSNDDY:

Haha Alberta is right above Montana. Nope sorry if you arent an Albertan they aren't covered or are only partially covered. I just checked the clinics site, for non residents its $750-1100.

Quoting Anonymous:

Which one is right above Montana? Could US citizens go to Canada to get one for free?

Quoting TSNDDY:

I'm Canadian, I don't think every province covers them but Alberta does.

Quoting Anonymous:

Wow where do you live? I am in Montana and an abortion is anywhere from $250 to $400

Quoting TSNDDY:

They are free here, makes so much more sense that way. Even being pregnant costs money, not to mention often loss in wages for many working women too.

Quoting Anonymous:

If I got pregnant right now I couldn't afford a baby or a damn abortion so my only option is adoption

Quoting TSNDDY:

It's cheaper than a baby.

Quoting Anonymous:

But somehow poor people can still afford abortions.

Its why I cloth diapered both my children and made them myself. I diapered both kids for probably less then $200 total. But I am a good sewer too and turned it into a business for myself. ALso why I refused to give up on BFing and would not use Formula. So I wasn't throwing away any money

Do you have an agenda to push?

Home made baby food is better AND cheaper than the jared kind.  Just grow or purchase fresh vegetables or the frozen ones that do not have sauces and seasonings, steam them and run thru a baby food grinder, a strainer , blender etc.  The baby gets real food, not additives and fillers, acquires a taste for they type of food you cook and grows up to be a better eater.

I agree with all that.  I also think you should be able to afford to do that.  Kids are not cheap to feed, clothe, house, etc.  Formula is about $30/can and a baby goes through 9ish cans a month?  If someone doesn't have $270/mo in disposable income....they cannot afford a baby/child.

Yeah, stop making babies before you can afford to feed them.  It's irresponsible and a drain on society.

The shit is getting friggen scary in this thread.

So you were proud because a baby can suck your tit?  Holy shit this country it doomed.

Quoting Anonymous:

I went through this with my baby. I used a shield until she was bigger, then I figured out how to just take a handful of breast, pinch it a bit, and latch her on. I was so proud!

Quoting Snapdragon88:

Well... I don't know if my reason is medical, but I formula feed because my nipples don't stay erect. My babies couldn't even FIND my nipples. It was heartbreaking to watch them struggle while hungry.

Quoting Anonymous:

I understand that, but I'm willing to bet most people who use it do so not because of a medical reason.

Quoting Snapdragon88:

Some women do, sweetheart. Don't make yourself sound like an ass.

Quoting Anonymous:

good thing you don't NEED formula if you have a baby.

Quoting ElitestJen:

Most people can afford just diapers.  However, if you can't afford formula, health insurance, clothes, diapers, etc. all at the same time - then you can't afford a baby.

UMMM--if you are saying that cloth diapers don't cause diaper rash, you are sadly mistaken! I had my oldest son in cloth diapers as a newborn. I changed him all the time! Guess what! He got a really bad diaper rash! I felt horrible!! His bottom looked like I left him out in the sun all day!! :(  That was the last day he ever wore cloth diapers! I gooped his bottom up with diaper rash ointment, put a disposable diaper on him, and his rash was gone within 2 days and he never got another diaper rash ever!

Quoting Anonymous:

Using real diapers that you wash is a good idea, even if you can afford the paper and lawn treatment filled one.  They have to be changed more often as you actually know when they are wet, but skin can breathe and there is no daiper rash.

Still for people who think Medicaid, WIC, etc is taking care of their own baby, IT IS NOT, it is welfare pure and simple.

People who can not afford baby food, medical care and clothes should not be in the reproducing business, and kids get more expensive the older they are!

I agree.  Get rid of welfare and let these fools make do.

Quoting brittanyjenean:

The question was about diapers.  Personally, the people back 100-and-some-odd years ago had it right.  Cloth diapers, no formula, hard work, farm land, etc.  I mean look at the Amish, not saying they are poor by any stretch of the imagination, but they also don't have the luxuries that we pride ourselves on and other than their beliefs, I commend them for what they do.  If people quit living outside of their means all the time, they could afford to have kids and take care of them.  It all boils down to the parent in the end.   But when you think about it and do the math, cloth diapers are cheaper and do save money that could be put towards other necessities.  But, most mommas these days don't want to fool with cloth diapers *in whiny voce* "Because it's groooosssssss!"  If their great great great grandmother (not even that far back) heard them say that, they would likely be smacked.  But also look at families from even 70, 60, 50 years ago.  I'm thinking cloth diapers are the way to go regardless.  I used disposables with DD and sitting here thinking it over, the money I could have saved using cloth is astronomical.

Quoting VarelaClan:

Yeah, but if you have to use cloth because of cost, you still can't afford a baby. What about food? Clothes? As kids get older they cost more. School supplies...bigger clothes...more food...
I use cloth, not because it's cheaper, it's for health and environmental reasons.

Quoting brittanyjenean:

There are two sides of this coin.....if you can't afford diapers, you can always go old fashioned with cloth.  If you refuse to use cloth and can't afford diapers, then nope, you shouldn't have a kid.
