So PA, how do you get it?

My daughter is 24 and has crohn's disease. It's a form of IBS. She also has fistulas and ovarian cysts, MSRA, and a whole host of other problems. It's kept her from finishing school. My daughter is a school portrait photographer, but currently laid off. She waitresses 1 night a week at a gentleman's club.
So my daughter applied for Medicaid since she can not afford all her medicines, doctor visits, and hospital bills. They turned her down. So what does she need to do? Go get knocked up? Stop working?

Here adults can't get it if they make over $250/mth unless they are pregnant. Getting knocked up for it is stupid seeing as how it ends two mths post partum. Check with your hospitals. Our county hospital has a program called Blue Card you can apply for. It's specifically for low income persons with medical issues. It's not insurance but a hugely discounted cost for office visits and meds. Ask if they have something like that.

Even if she gets knocked up, all she will get is medicaid while she is pregnant.  She would have to stop working, bring in no income, and apply for disability.

Now if she has medications she is struggling to afford, she needs to see if she can switch to generic, most generic meds are like $4 to fill.  If not, then most pharamcutical companies have assitance programs for people who cannot afford all their meds, have no insurance, and do not qualify for medicaid or medicare.  I might be able to help you look into those, if you can pm a list of her meds.

Is there a free, or reduced clinic in her area?

She needs to be receiving disability and/or have a child.  Difficult for a working adult to get help with health care.

She needs to work more and pay for the meds herself.

In Ohio, as long as you are income eligible and have children you are legally responsible for, you continue to get Medicaid even after having the child.  Surprised to hear otherwise in other states.  Intersting.

The income limits for a non-disabled adult with no children are lower than they would be if she had kids or was pregnant. Has she ever looked into SSI? She may qualify and if she does that will enable her to get Medicaid.
