Do you have a weird last name?

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post

Feel free to go anon for this, if you don't want your last name out there.

I have a weird last name. I wish I didn't, because I ALWAYS have to spell it for people. And since it has letters that sound like other letters, like D and T and M I have to say "D, as in dog, T as in Turtle, M as in Mary". And people STILL butcher it! I hate it. I wish I could be a Smith or a Johnson...something that I wouldn't constantly have to spell out.

My last name? Ditmars. I'm willing to bet that not a single one of you share my last name. :) And there is not another person in this world that has the same first name/last name combination as me. At least not that I've found. So I guess that's at least one good thing - it's unique!

OMG!!! This is a featured post?!?! I've never had one of those - how cool!

My last name is French. Not like a word in French, just French. It isn't too bad but nicknames like Frenchy, French Fry, etc. have always come up. It wouldn't be so bad now if I wasn't a substitute teacher. Almost every day I am asked in I speak French, am French, teach French, all of which are no lol. I have heard it k-12. But overall not really such a bad last name.

Another funny fact, my married name was France. The jokes were endless lol.

My last name is Cruz. Simple and easy...I like it. I do get a lot of jokes about it, such as people asking if I'm related to (and I'm not) Penelope Cruz or Victor Cruz (though he is my fave player from the NY Giants :)) Most people ask if I'm related to Tom Cruise...ummm NO and it's not even spelled the same :)

Actually, when I was growing up, I lived in Queens, NY, right off Ditmars Boulevard! So, if you told me your last name, I would have gotten it right away! LOL!

My husband is from Africa so my last name is African and pretty much unheard of here in the US. People have a hard time pronouncing it too.
