What have you been told to put down for your childs race?

I'm black and my husband is hispanic. When I do paper work I put my children as black hispanic. When I went to another place I was told to just put hispanic for my daughter. I told the lady my daughter isn't just hispanic she is black too. She then said we only go by the fathers race!! WTF?!?! So when I went to get my sons SSC I was told to just put him as black?! WTF?!?! My daughter has other listed for her SS but my son, whom has the same parents, is just black?

I don't like identifing them as one race because they are not.

What do you do?

My sister in law refuses to check any box because her kids mixed; shes white, her husband is black. When they tell her to check a box she tells them there isn't one for mixed kids, so they tell her to check off black, and she just says "they're not black" and hands back the form.

If there is only room for 1, then I put "black"

If there is room for 2 then I put "black & caucasian"

I haven't been encountered with that question yet, but I will probably go by my DH ethnicity unless it has a mixed option.

I wish they had a "bi-racial" option.

They really do need the option. It would make things SOOOOOOO much easier.

Hispanic is not a race.  I would choose black for the race and Hispanic for the ethnicity. Hispanics come in all colors.

Edit: Sorry, I meant to put that no matter what country their family is from, they can be any color just like Americans are.
