My kid is so perfect!

My sister is a very strict parent. She's a SAHM during the week - her daughter is in school all day and in the evening has a schedule that they stick to religiously. Their time is planned from when she gets home until bedtime with no room for swaying. She works weekends, so her husband has their daughter and he's a lot more relaxed with her.

I allow my kids to be kids. They have their chores and homework, but we love spontanious little outings and what not and don't have a schedule we stick to every night. My kids are very respectful and well behaved, no matter who they are with. When her daughter comes here or goes to grandma's house, she acts up horribly.

My sister is always trying to give me tips and talking about how perfect her daughter is. I don't think it's that the kid is perfect - I think she's just afraid to act up because of how strict her mom is. I feel badly for my niece and I get really irritate at all the advice she tries to give.

My kids are all perfect too. It's amazing how many awesome and well-behaved kids we in the CM community have...

my kids are so far away from being perfect that the light from perfect isn't even visible.

i admit, i'm guilty of giving tips to my sister about her son.  it's not that i think i'm a better parent or anything, but our kids have similar personalities and behaviors...so, if i find something that works my kids, i'm excited to share -- maybe it will work for hers.  maybe she's offering advice because she truly thinks you need it.  i would just tell her that what works for her family won't necessarily work for yours and maybe she'll get the hint.

:( Your poor little niece. I suppose, it's better for her parent to be strict than be drugged up all day long. There are worse things. It's good she has a father that's more relaxed with her.
