We may be moving to KC for dh's job. He will be working in Lenexa. I was looking at Shawnee to rent in. The commute would be quick and the price is right. This would befor a year or two until we are ready to purchase a home outside of KC.
Can anyone tell me if Shawnee is decent. I can live with a little crime, a little lower income. But I do need to be safe. Is this an ok place to live with my family?
Shawnee mission, east of I-435 is great too, but the schools aren't as good. They aren't bad by any means. We are in the DeSoto school district.
We love it here. It's very suburban. Lots of community support. Schools all within walking distance.
Thank you! I found a couple of apartments that were very close to elementary schools. We are a one car home so I love the idea of being very close to the kids school. The more I look into Shawnee the more I like it. Seems like a lot of shopping close by and good schools. And the rent is about 30% cheaper than in Overland Park and Lenexa.

We are seriously way out west, still Shawnee city limits, but not Shawnee mission schools.
Before you choose a place, check out the schools. The Shawnee mission schools are good but not great. The further east in Shawnee you go, the worse the schools are. Shawnee is a fairly large sized city.
