So i had part of a root canal today, part because as the were doing the last root a very thin metal piece came off the instrument and is now lodged in my tooth. I have to go to a "root canal specialist" now on wednesday (next week). I've had one before no problems, and i always wondered what people were complaining about. Supposedly this happens from time to time, has anyone else had this happen to them? What was the healing process and the pain? The Novocaine is wearing off now and my jaw is really sore.

I haven't had that happen but that sounds terrible. I hope your dentist is covering the specialist though! Good luck and hope you dont get too sore.

Never had that happen, but I did have to have 6 shots of novicane to get numb for my last root canal because it was already in a lot of pain. That sucked. It took 24 hours to get it to completely wear off.

Good luck though, I'm sure since you're seeing a specialist they will know what they're doing! You'll be just fine. Take some advil!!!

I had the dentist drill through the side of the tooth and ended up having to extract it. He sent me a bill for the root canal which I refused to pay because it was his fault. I just paid for the crown & extraction. Is the piece still lodged in your tooth? That sounds painful. Good luck.

Ouch. I've had a root canal but it went smoothly.
Good luck. If it gets too bad you should call & get some pain killers called out.

It actually happens quite often. The specialist should get you all fixed up but make sure you don't have to pay for that visit since its not your fault it happened. You can always have the dentist call pain killers out for you if it gets too bad

The horizontal piece is the clamp that was on the tooth. Its the curved peice at the bottom. She showed me what was in there and its only as thick as a strand or 2 of hair. But its a file of some sort.
